Meet Brian Stacey,
Strategic Advisor – First Nations Policy and Public Administration

Brian has dedicated his life to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people achieve their development objectives. Working for both the Federal government and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled organisations, Brian brings an unmatched understanding of the Indigenous Affairs policy landscape.  

Brian has held leadership roles in all significant policy reforms in Indigenous Affairs over the last 40 years, starting off supporting Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory to move back to their traditional lands, playing a leading role in the development and implementation of Land Rights and Native Title legislation, negotiating ground breaking regional partnership agreements between governments and communities, mobilising resources to community priorities, and supporting the development of the historic National Agreement on Closing the Gap on behalf of the Coalition of Peaks. He recently finished as a Professor in Practice in the First Nations Portfolio at the Australian National University. 

Brian is the President of the St Vincent de Paul Society Canberra/Goulburn bringing his expertise and compassion to support vulnerable people in the region. 

Achieving better housing outcomes for Australians who need more support is Brian’s highest priority and he is interested in policy, legislative and funding reforms that can achieve this.
